(7) On March 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act ("CARES Act") was enacted by the U.S. Federal government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The CARES Act, among other things, allows net operating losses ("NOLs") incurred in 2018, 2019, and 2020 to be carried back to each of the five preceding taxable years to generate a refund of previously paid income taxes. We recorded an income tax benefit of $9.1 million related to the carryback of NOL from tax years 2018 and 2019. For the year ended December 31, 2017, as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 ("2017 Tax Act"), which became law on December 22, 2017, we provided an estimate of the new repatriation tax as of December 31, 2017. Subsequent to further guidance published in the first quarter of 2018, we booked additional tax expense of $1.2 million for the 2017 repatriation tax. Based upon additional interpretations and finalization of our 2017 income tax returns, the total repatriation tax was further adjusted in the fourth quarter of 2018, producing a tax benefit of $2.8 million in that period.
