Rowan Reports Third Quarter 2017 Results

HOUSTON, Nov. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- For the quarter ended September 30, 2017, Rowan Companies plc (" Rowan " or the " Company ") (NYSE: RDC) reported a net loss of $20.9 million, or $0.17 net loss per diluted share, compared to net income of $5.5 million, or $0.04 per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2016. The net income for the prior-year quarter included a $34.3 million (after tax), or $0.27 per diluted share, non-cash asset impairment charge and a $1.4 million (after tax), or $0.01 per share, credit from a litigation-related matter.

Tom Burke, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "Our third quarter financial results reflect our ability to successfully manage through this challenging cycle by executing safe, efficient and reliable operations, while continuing to focus on control of costs." Rowan is a global provider of contract drilling services with a fleet of 26 mobile offshore drilling units, comprised of 22 self-elevating jack-up rigs and four ultra-deepwater drillships. The Company's fleet operates worldwide, including the United States Gulf of Mexico, the United Kingdom and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea, the Middle East, and Trinidad.
