(b) On October 30, 2013, it was announced that Ted Mitchell, a member of the board of directors (the “Board”) of The McClatchy Company (the “Company”), has been nominated by President Barack Obama to become Under Secretary of Education. This nomination requires confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Mr. Mitchell has notified the Company of his decision to resign from the Board if and when the Senate confirms his appointment.
