Item 5.02. Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.

As a grocery distributor and a retailer, Spartan Stores, Inc. (the “Company”) continues to evolve its unique hybrid business model to advance both its wholesale and retail business operations. As part of an effort to promote an even greater exchange of knowledge and perspective between the two business operations, as well as provide new leadership opportunities for members of its executive team and foster growth, the Company has announced that the executive vice presidents for each of its two business segments will exchange duties effective January 6, 2013. At that time, Theodore Adornato, who currently serves as Executive Vice President Retail Operations, will become Executive Vice President Wholesale Operations. Derek Jones, who currently serves as Executive Vice President Wholesale Operations, will become Executive Vice President Retail Operations. Each of Mr. Adornato and Mr. Jones will continue to serve as an executive officer of the Company.
