On January 2, 2013, Safeway Inc. issued a press release announcing that Steven A. Burd will retire as Chief Executive Officer and as a director of the Company effective as of May 14, 2013, the date of Safeway's next annual meeting of stockholders.
A copy of the press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and is incorporated herein by reference.
