ITEM 7.01 — REGULATION FD DISCLOSURE

 

Arkansas Best Corporation (Nasdaq: ABFS) (the “Company”) is providing the following update on the most recent information related to the Company’s second quarter 2012 financial results and business trends. ABF Freight System, Inc. (“ABF”) is the largest subsidiary of the Company.

 

ABF’s financial metrics and business trends for the second quarter 2012 to-date through June 10, 2012, versus the same period last year:

 

·                  Billed revenue decreased approximately 1%

·                  Total billed revenue per hundredweight, both including and excluding fuel surcharge, increased approximately 6%

·                  Tonnage per day decreased approximately 7%

 

For comparison purposes, first quarter 2012 tonnage per day decreased 10.6%, versus first quarter 2011.

 

Quarter to-date through May 31, 2012, ABF experienced a small operating profit.

 

ABF’s recent, historical operating ratio trend between first quarter and second quarter is an improvement of between 5 and 7 points.

 

On Monday, June 25, 2012, ABF will revise its general rates and charges for its freight division. Rates will increase by about 6.9%, although the effect on specific lanes and shipments will vary.
