Ann H. Thornton, a member of the boards of directors of New Century Bancorp, Inc. (the “Company”), and its wholly owned subsidiary, New Century Bank (the “Bank”), passed away on January 13, 2012. Ms. Thornton had served as a director of the Bank since 2002 and as a member of the Company’s board of directors since 2009.
