A copy of a press release issued by Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America (“TIAA”) on August 8, 2011 with respect to, among other things, the downgrade by Standard and Poor’s of U.S. AAA-rated insurers, including TIAA, to AA+ with a negative outlook as a result of the recent U.S. sovereign debt rating downgrade, has been furnished as Exhibit 99.1 to this Current Report on Form 8-K.
