Item 8.01                       Other Events

On September 29, 2010, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) considered and decided upon over 50 different issues contained in Minnesota Power’s 2009 retail rate increase request. ALLETE, Inc. estimates that the MPUC will order an overall retail electric rate increase of approximately $54 million when it issues a formal written order on or before November 2, 2010. The MPUC approved a 10.38 percent return on common equity and a 54.29 percent equity ratio.

Minnesota Power will continue to collect interim rates from its customers until the new rates go into effect, which will be after the reconsideration period has expired and after all compliance filings are completed and accepted. Reconsideration of the order could affect the final rate increase amount.
